AMG Foundation, Kano Police honour 222 repentant thugs

The Kano State Police Command in collaboration with the Aminu Magashi Foundation (AMGF) have organised a colourful ceremony for the 222 repentant thugs as part of efforts to reintegrate them in to the society.

In a welcome speech, AMGF chairman, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, said the foundation will continue to collaborate with Relevant authorities to eradicate societal menace and make youth more meaningful to the communities.

Dr Magashi also said youth are the greatest asset of any society that needs to be supported, guided and make investment in their lives for peace, stability and prosperity.

On his part, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel said adopting Community policy approach in reducing crimes greatly assist in tackling the spate of crimes in the state, called on all to show the repentants sense of belonging and engage them in life changing programs.

CP Gumel tasked the repentants to remain steadfast and committed in their engagements pledging to open his door always for advice and guidance whenever the the need arises for them to forge ahead

Also speaking, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf restated the commitment of his administration to empower repentant youth, for them to be re-integrate into the society and become self-reliant for the betterment of their future.

Governor Yusuf added that apart from provision of the needed logistics, a security communication center established during the administration of former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, was re-established after it was abondoned by the immediate-past administration.

“The centre was established to serve as a Quick Response Centre ( QRC)that was designed and equipped with modern Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and manned by various security personnel and it was covering ten identified locations in the metropolis.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that abondement of this very facility contributed largely to the rising spate of phone Snatching and other violent crimes that took the tolls on our streets become we came in on May 29, 2023,” Governor Yusuf said.

The governor added that the repentant thugs will enjoy scholarship and sponsorship from the government, and also those who want acquire skills or go to legitimate businesses, would receive the full support of the state government.

Governor Kabir Yusuf added that what happened is a clear testimony that Kano has regained her lost glory as a haven for human development and it also showcased the effort of the state government to ensure security of lives and property.

“This will make investors to feel free to partner with the state government for mutual benefits and socio-economic development,” he said.

He also commended the efforts of the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel for organising the training of the repentants out of which 50 are constabulary volunteers who were selected from the crime prone local governments of Fagge, Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Ungogo and Kano Municipal.

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero expressed delight as the teaming youth had change for the better ànd urged them to seek for knowledge and conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.
